Athlete Requirements

In order to participate or attend tryouts, every student MUST complete the following three items:

Athletes that do NOT complete all three items will not be able to participate in tryouts. There are no exceptions!

All three items are good for one school year.

Football Equipment

The school will provide helmet, shoulder pads, pants with integrated pads and a game jersey.  Unless otherwise directed the game jersey should only be worn for games and scrimmages.  Pants may be worn for practice as well as games.

All helmets are NOCSAE approved and certified every year.

Each player must obtain their own cup and supporter, socks, appropriate undergarments and socks, including a shirt to go under the shoulder pads, cleats (any all purpose molded cleat will do) and a practice jersey.

All team members will be issued a mouth guard at the beginning of the season.  Replacement mouth guards are available for $1.00 each.  Those athletes with braces may want to check with their orthodontist for a special mouthguard.

Instructions for Molding Mouthpiece (These directions are taken from the provider, Riddell)

  1. Bring a pan of water to a full boil.  Have a bowl of cold water nearby.
  2. Using tongs or a slotted spoon completely immerse the mouthpiece in boiling water for 30 seconds.
  3. Remove from boiling water and dip in cold water for 1 second - no more.
  4. Quickly and carefully insert the mouthpieced into the mouth.  Make sure front and back teeth are in the tooth  trough.
  5. Mold mouthpiece around upper teeth with fingers. Use thumbs to push onto back teeth.
  6. Close back teeth lightly on mouthpiece to form lower teeth impression.  Be Careful not to bite all the way through the material.
  7. Insert mouthpiece back into boiling water for 2 seconds - no more.  Shake and carefully insert back into mouth where the teeth indentations are already made.
  8. Close teeth together.  Quickly use fingers to mold under lips and cheeks.
  9. Place mouthpiece under cold water to set.
  10. With mouthpiece not in mouth, use a razor blade or sharp scissors to carefully trim excess material.

It is the responsibility of the player to keep all equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.  At their discretion players may use their own equipment and with coach approval.

In keeping with PIAA rules no eye shields are permitted unless they are required by a doctor.  A note from a doctor must be submitted to the principal and approved if an athlete is required to wear an eye shield.
